The saddle carpetshark, Cirrhoscyllium japonicum, is a carpetshark of the family Parascylliidae found around Japan, between latitudes 35° N and 24° N, at depths of between 250 and 290 m. Its length is up to 49 cm.
The saddle carpetshark has a pair of cartilaginous barbels on the throat. The mouth is in front of the eyes, and the snout is long. The dorsal fins are about equal sized and set towards the tail. It is found on the continental shelf, offshore on or near the bottom.
Coloration is nine bold saddle marks on the dorsal surface continuing on to the tail, one of them C-shaped between the pectoral and pelvic fins.
Reproduction is oviparous.
