Sacred dance the dance that is or used to be part of a religious or mystic ritual. It is supposed to serve the purpose of the upliftment of the being and attaining higher spiritual state of consciousness. There are many forms of it:

  • American Indian dance
  • The ecstatic dance of the Greek fire-walkers at the Anastenaria
  • Intercessory dance is most commonly undertaken in the Christian faith, when dance is entered into as a spiritual exercise, with the intention of allowing communication between the Holy Spirit and either the dancer or people watching. This communication is for the purpose of expressing various forms of human need to God, and sometimes also of allowing Him to reply.
