SABC 1

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

SABC 1 is a South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) public service television channel that carries programming in English and Nguni languages.

It was created in 1996, after the SABC restructured its television channels. SABC 1 carried much of its programming over from the defunct CCV (Contemporary Community Values) channel, which was itself made up of the old TV2, TV3 and TV4 channels created in the 1980s.

SABC 1 took over the frequency used by TV1, the main SABC channel since the launch of television in 1976. This was to allow the channel to reach the largest population as TV1 had the largest transmitter network.
