[edit] Great coaches of SLB

Strangely, some of the most successfull and famous SLB coaches were missing:

  1. Cosme Damião - 8 championships
  2. Janos Biri - 3 championships, 3 cups
  3. Otto Glória - 4 championships + 5 cups
  4. Lajos Czeizler - Only two titles with SLB, but an industry all time great
  5. Jimmy Hagan - 3+1 in four years
  6. Tomislav Ivic - 0 titles, but an industry all time great

[edit] Nicknames

The club has two nicknames: one complimentary, one not. They're both explained in the article — why should one be omitted from the infobox? --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 09:11, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

There has been vandalism in this page. Please take care.

I would suggest putting this page under a semi-protection policy because the one who vandalized this page isn't a registered member. --Thorius Maximus 18:27, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] SL Benfica redirect

SL Benfica is a disambig between this article and SL Benfica (basketball). Shouldn't it redirect here (as by far the most common use) and a link to a disambiguation page, such as SL Benfica (disambigation) added to the top of this page? -- Chuq 01:20, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

LOL

Completely opinionated.

There were several different portuguese football leaders during the Estado Novo regime:

  • FC Porto - Winner of the very first I Liga.
  • Benfica - Winner of the following three I Liga. During the 1940´s the club was in crisis.
  • Sporting - Leader of the portuguese football until 1955.
  • Belenenses - Winner of one portuguese championship, with a great team in the 1940s and 1950s. Several times portuguese cup finnalists.
  • Benfica - Started dominating the portuguese football after Otto Gloria´s revolution (he brought profissionalism to the club), after 1955. So, Salazar helped Benfica to achieved 5 times during the 1960s the Uefa Champions Cup, with a rather weak team.

What a laugh.

Beetween 1974 and 1994, twenty years after the revolution, Benfica won 10 times the national championship and FC Porto only 8 times. Were´s the controversy now ?

Facts what facts, since when rumours and lies fruit of envy are facts. For example there are are rumours of Porto being involved in bribery and in a system to difficult Sporting and Benfica but i don't put that in the Porto page why because its a rumour and until its proved it cannot be considered a true fact.

Eusebio was abducted, did you know he was a minor and Sporting to hire him LEGALLY was supposed to talk with the mother to have her permission and Benfica was the only team to do that.

Team of Salazar, yes Salazar supports a team with members of freedom movements like Rui Minguas (athletism and known supporter of Angola independecy ) Coluna (member of Frelimo) and members of commnunist party in the management. That's why benfica is the club most hated by communists, wait the minute is the most popular team of the communists because was the only club to permit menbers of both communist party and fascist party in the management unlike the other teams who only accept the "clean" and respected members of the fascist. You want facts see how many members of the Communist party or public opposers of Salazar where also members of the Benfica management like José Magalhães Godinho or Manuel da Conceição Afonso.

PIDE in games to difficult the other teams, so thats why Salgueiros made a incredible game of 4-5 ith Benfica in the 60 or thats why there was a game beetween Benfica and Setubal for the portuguese cup in the day after of the champions cup because PIDE and Salazar thought that Benfica could play with the youth team while the others were returning from Berna.

Calabote, all the newspapers in the day after criticize the time lost made by CUF players and Porto according with the radio and newspapers had 2 very doubtfull penalties and Torrensse saw two players out of the game for unknown reasons but that no one talks they simple talk of the extra 10 minutes of a game that started 6 minutes after time in Benfica match.

Yes Salazar control Europe as well thats why Benfica is considered the team of 60 by UEFA because the 5 finals were all achieved with PIDE help.

Why you don't talk that several members of Sporting and Porto management were fascists suppoorters and important members of the governement while Benfica, guess this, was hated by fascists for being very popular beetween communists and they even changed the popular name Benfica was known vermelhos (REDS) for encarnados and the official song "Avante benfica" because sounded communist.
