Sōya Subprefecture

Sōya (宗谷支庁; -shichō) is a subprefecture of Hokkaido, Japan. Its population is estimated to be 77,500 as of July 31, 2004 and its area is 4,050.84 km².

- On March 20, 2006, the towns of Utanobori and Esashi from Esashi District merged to form the new town of Esashi.

- 1948 Toyotomi Village (now Town), Teshio District transferred from Rumoi Subprefecture
