Sólveig Pétursdóttir

Sólveig Guðrún Pétursdóttir, born March 11, 1952, is the current president of the Althing, the Icelandic parliament, since 2005. She has been a parliament member since 1991 for the Reykjavík Consituency (1991-2003, and from 2003 for the Reykjavík South Constituency. She is a member of the Sjálfstæðisflokkurinn, or Independence Party (in English). Pétursdóttir was Iceland's Minister of Justice and Ecclesiastical Affairs 1999-2003. She is a lawyer from the University of Iceland (1977).
