São Pedro da Afurada

São Pedro da Afurada is one freguesia List of clienteles portuguese concelho of New Village of Gaia, with 1,00 km² of area and 3 442 inhabitants (2001). Density: 3 442,0 hab/km². Party of S. Peter of the São Pedro da Afurada is a piscatória village whose padroeiro saint is Is Peter. People of great devotion, every year the fishing give the due homage to the Saint, with all the pomp and circumstance where it stops beyond the religious cerimónias does not lack to the traditional sardine baked with the typical Broa de Avintes and the Fire of Artifice. This party reaches its height, aquando of the exit of the procession, whose andores carry images from Saints and Saints of natural size followed by its faithful duly worn with traditional vestments of the gentes of fish. To the ticket opposite to Rio Douro, it is proceeded the benção from the boats folloied for the touch of the buzzers and mortars. During the Parties of S.Pedro of the Afurada, the images of the NªSrª are placed in the Square of S.Pedro de Fátima, Nª Srª of the Carmo (Padroeira of the Men of the Sea) and of S. Miguel the Arcanjo. The Image of S.Pedro (Padroeiro of the Fishing) is permanent in this place, therefore the old Church of the Afurada existed here, whose photograph is clear in the restaurant “the house of the same fisherman” to the side of this plaza. This Church was destruida by floods of the Douro.
