[edit] iShares

Barclays Global Investors created the iUnits S&P®/TSX™ 60 Index Fund TSX: XIU in December 2003. This is an exchange-traded fund which trades on the Toronto Stock Exchange and invests in the 60 stocks of the S&P/TSX 60 Index. The units of this fund, therefore, represents an opportunity for the investor to achieve the same performance of the S&P/TSX 60 Index, and trade like any other stock on the TSE, so they can be bought on margin, sold short, or held for the long term.

Recently Barclays Global Investors renamed the Canadian iUnits™ to iShares™ to align the Canadian ETF brand with the popular Barclays US-based iShares™ brand. Thus all former iUnits™ branded ETFs are now known as iShares™ brand ETFs.
