[edit] Playing career
Potulny began his career playing for the Lincoln Stars of the USHL, putting up impressive numbers that caught the eyes of scouts. He was drafted in the third round, 87th overall, at the 2003 NHL Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers.
From there, he went on to play collegiate hockey, and registered 68 goals and 50 assits for 118 points in 100 career collegiate games over three seasons (2003-04 - 2005-06) with the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Potulny ranked first in the nation with 38 goals and 63 points in the 2005-06 season. He was an All-WCHA First Team Honoree and was a finalist for the 2006 Hobey Baker Memorial Award.
Potulny signed a 2-year entry level contract with the Flyers on March 29, 2006. He played two games with the Flyers in the 2005-06 NHL season, making his NHL debut on April 7, 2006. During this time, he also scored his first professional point.
Potulny is currently splitting his time between the Flyers and their AHL affiliate, the Philadelphia Phantoms. With the Phantoms, his rookie season has been impressive. On November 25, 2006, he scored two goals for the second time in two consecutive games.
[edit] Skills and potential:
Ryan is seen as a very good prospect given that he has good hands and good goal scoring instincts. However, he does need to be a better distributor of the puck and may need to bulk up a little to play the center position.
