Ryan Malone (born December 1, 1979 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) is a professional ice hockey left winger/center who currently plays for the Pittsburgh Penguins of the NHL.

Ryan Malone was drafted in the 4th round, 115th overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.
He is the son of former Penguins scout, and former player, Greg Malone. Malone began his hockey career with the Pittsburgh Hornets, and is the first NHL player to be born and raised in the Pittsburgh area. He played his first NHL game on 10/10/2003 vs the Los Angeles Kings, and also had his high school number 12 retired from Upper St. Clair High School in 2004. He did not graduate from Upper St. Clair, but instead elected to play his junior year at Shattuck St. Mary's High School in Minnesota. This school later featured Zach Parise and then Sidney Crosby in 2002-03. He played his senior year in the USHL with the Omaha Lancers and was drafted 2 weeks after his high school graduation. He went on to play at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota.
Malone had an excellent rookie season in the NHL, surprising many by earning a spot on the opening-night roster and then finishing third on the team in scoring behind defenseman Dick Tarnstrom and winger Aleksey Morozov. In his sophomore season, despite a slow start that resulted in his being benched for a few games, Malone eventually put up similar point totals as his first year, proving to many that the offensive potential he had shown as a rookie was not merely a fluke.
His third season also started poorly, but after a lengthy injury layoff his form improved. Playing on a line with Sidney Crosby and Mark Recchi, he notched his first four-point NHL game on December 13 in a game against the Philadelphia Flyers, and two days later scored his first NHL hat-trick, this time against the New York Islanders. With this feat, Malone and his father became only the second father-son duo in NHL history to score hat-tricks for the same team. [1]
Malone achieved another career oddity against the Islanders on February 19, 2007. Malone recorded his second career hat trick, both against the Islanders, by scoring a goal in the first minute of all three periods. [2]
