User talk:RVDDP2501

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hi, This is regarding the Extinctioners page. Wow, you did a great job with the article. I see that you put a lot of calculations behind the size of the images. I only resized the images because it is starkly different from the layout in other Wikipedia articles. Anyways, I leave that to you to either resize it or leave it like that. However I want you to know that there are ways to deal with the blank space that comes beside the TOC - {{TOCleft}} and {{TOCright}}. Please see Windows Vista, WinFS, Alizée, Features new to Windows Vista for demonstration.

And for images, they must be non-copyrighted if you want to upload them. Otherwise they will be deleted. Also while uploading, you must specify the source. Most images from web are not in this category. But book/magazine covers can be used, under certain cirumstances.

And it is improper to remove warning messages from your talk page. If you ever get such a message, give a response justifying your actions both on your talk page, as well as on the talk page of the person who put the message.

Apart from that, Welcome to Wikipedia. --soUmyaSch 05:39, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

Hi, thnx for ur comments.
The messages you said you got were only drawing your attention to the fact that the sources of the images that you uploaded were not specified. So, specifying sources is a good start. However, that is not entirely sufficient. Since all the images are copyrighted, you need to provide a rationale stating why using it on wikipedia qualifies as fair use of the image, without infringing the copyright. Only then it can be used in wikipedia. So in additionn to the {{Promotional}}, you must add one {{fair use in|<article name>}} tag as well.
As for the article, IMO it looks too heavy on pictures. The concept art images do not add any further clarification to the prose. Other than that, its a nice article.
As for knowing about Wikipedia, it just a matter of experience. Here are a bunch of links that will help you.
Hope this helps. --soUmyaSch 05:45, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Extinctioners Page

Thanks for editing the link to the Extinctioners site, listen, is there a limit to the number of pic on Wikipedia, cause a user named Pathoschild COMPLETELY edited my page last night, changed everything, left a ton of empty spaces, what do you think and what should I do? Do you think I have too many pics or are you like me, more visual info, the better —The preceding unsigned comment was added by RVDDP2501 (talkcontribs).

Generally, having too many non-free images is discouraged, but personally I like images. That said, I don't really want to get seriously involved in the debate. All I did was change a link in the external links section. Hope you don't get too much wikistressPengo 11:05, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

Well, then can I ask your opinion, if thats ok with you, which pics do you think are not nessesary, which one you think can stay, etc. I really would like you opinion, if you want I can give you my e-mail address so we can talk in an easier way, what would you prefer?

If you want my honest opinion, making shrines to pop culture is a massive waste of time and you've already invested far too much mental and emotional energy to it. I really wish people would care more about conserving real animals and less about the placement of drawings of anthropomorphised ones. Pathoschild's version is much neater, and the images which have been removed could possibly be added in a gallery at the bottom, although they are basically unnecessary. Try reading what has already been said to you. If you like drawings of animals, why not make some yourself and add them to the relevant articles about those animals. There are plenty of mammals that don't have pictures yet. —Pengo 11:47, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

I'll try and make it better, tell me what you think?

ok, its edited, what do you think (P.S. it was alittle bit difficult to remove pics that i worked to add)

I believe that the page is totaly overloaded with images, and happen to agree with Pathoschild (talk contribs)'s reworking of the page. The Wiki project on Fair Use states that we must keep fair use images to a minimum, and no page can be overloaded with them with out being a copyright violation. I like the page; but loose some of the pictures. Admrb♉ltz (tclog) 18:56, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

The page is overloaded right now. Pathoschild (talk contribs) should not have made a gallery of fair use images, I believe there should only be 1 pic per charicter. Admrb♉ltz (tclog) 00:50, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

well, at least the page is much more neat, there ARE fewer pics and I created the model group at the bottom, Pathoschild (thank you) just turned it into a gallery, I like the two pic per character, it give viewers on one hand a coloured version and on the other, a full body view, plus with two pick on either side, it appears more even, don't you think?

[edit] AfD Nomination Anthroid

I've nominated the article Anthroid for deletion under the Articles for deletion process. We appreciate your contributions, but in this particular case I do not feel that Anthroid satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion. I have explained why in the nomination space (see What Wikipedia is not and Deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Anthroid. Don't forget to add four tildes (˜˜˜˜) at the end of each of your comments to sign them. You are free to edit the content of Anthroid during the discussion, but please do not remove the "Articles for Deletion" template (the box at the top). Doing so will not end the discussion. --Zoz (t) 21:12, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Extinctioners article

Hey there. Would you be opposed to my doing a major edit job on this article? I'm trying my best to find a way to save it from the AfD process, but the fact that most of the 'keep' opinions are from new or relatively new users is likely to play against it. I really think it needs to be pared down quite a lot - as one of the other people mentioned, cutting it down to a couple of pictures and removing all the detail about the characters would probably make it a lot more viable. If you're okay with it, I can give that a shot this afternoon and hopefully make it a bit safer. Let me know. Tony Fox 15:57, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. I agree the article looked good with all the images, but if you compare it with other comics, like the Albedo article - a comic with a longer history than Extinctioners but similarities in publishing and market - it was just really overwhelming, I think. I'll do my best with it tonight. Cheers. Tony Fox 16:40, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

Hey - checked out the WikiFur article - it looks pretty sharp. I like the breakouts for all the separate characters - it's nice that it can be expanded there. That's good stuff. The AfD is still ongoing, but I don't know whether a consensus has been reached at all - I think it's going to be fairly close to a no-consensus keep, but it will come down to the closing administrator's decision, and hopefully the reduced version will be okay. Really, the folks who started this are doing it for the best of the Wiki... it's amazing how minute the things that people think are important can be, and how much of a stress it can be to get rid of them. If they were to keep everything, it'd be a total mess. Extinctioners should probably qualify, but it really depends on the community consensus - we'll see. Tony Fox 02:35, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Let's not do anything too extensive to the article just now. I think some viewers will consider this version to be still too long, and if we started adding anything else in before the deletion debate closes, it could swing the final decision. (I'm surprised the debate hasn't closed, to be honest, but sometimes it takes a couple of extra days before an admin gets there.)Tony Fox 15:20, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
And it just closed as a no-consensus, which is basically a default keep. The thing is, it's likely to be tagged again in the future and the process will happen again, so major changes are definitely not advisable. Like I said when I did the rewrite, I think the main thing is to have an article here that will give people an idea of what the book is about, and if they want more, they can go to the WikiFur article for the big details. I think that's where it's at right now, anyhow... Tony Fox 16:17, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Messages from DragonMaster

Hey, no problem. Those images are awesome!

Why was the Extinctioners going to be deleted? I read through the deletion discussion, and it doesn't make any sense to me. They wanted to delete it because it wasn't a popular comic? -__-;;

I've never heard of the Extinctioners before. It looks like a really good comic. I need to read more furry comics. --DragonMaster 02:31, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

I just checked it out, and it's really good. The only problem is that there's an image that cuts into the Table of Contents. The image is titled "Extinctioners_Banner." Other than that, though. It's amazing, especially since you haven't read the comics! That's really great work!

Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know if there was a certain place messages had to go. -__-;; I'm still relatively new to this Wikipedia business. In regards to the banner, it must be my computer or something because even if I put the test size as small as it can be, it still covers the bottom of the table of contents. Maybe it's my monitor size, 800X600. Either way, it doesn't detract from the article, so it's not that big of a deal ^_~ --DragonMaster 19:09, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

Hey there! Sorry I haven't responded sooner - I've been pretty tied up lately with work and travel, so haven't had much of a chance to take a look at the WikiFur version of the article. [edit] Horridus

Ok. I have removed the speedy deletion tag for now. However, I suggest you take a look at our guidelines about articles concerning fictional characters. I'm not convinced that Wikipedia is the right place for this kind of content. Note also that you copied the content from somewhere else on the web which means that you might be violating copyright policies. Cheers, Pascal.Tesson 03:42, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

Rule number one: Don't panic. No one's going to hunt you down for violating copyright policies and I'm not here to sanctimoniously say that you're doing everything wrong. My concerns are genuine though: it's not acceptable to copy and paste on Wikipedia material that may be copyright by the owner of the webpage you took it from. It's also not so good practice although not a crime to create pages on marginal comic book characters. So a better solution is to first make sure that whatever you put up is more or less in your own words and second make sure that it makes sense to create this article rather than expand another article about the comic book itself. For any guidance, you can ask just about anybody: some administrator, someone at the comics wikiproject, me or someone random by posting a question on this page with {{helpme}}. Cheers, Pascal.Tesson 04:47, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
Don't worry, good faith mistakes will never be held against you. Happy editing, Pascal.Tesson 14:54, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] When you don't provide an edit summary, you tend to look like a vandal

I have noticed you commonly don't enter an edit summary. This causes me problems. When I patrol for vandalism, I use the summary to make a preliminary decision on whether or not the post is a vandal edit or not. If the summary is present (or at least a section header, the part inside the /* */), I commonly decide the edit is legit and move on.

However, if no edit summary is available, I typically resort to loading the diff for the edit. This takes time. For that reason, if your edits are all valid, I ask that you provide edit summaries. For more on how to enter an edit summary, please read Help:Edit summary.

Incidentally, it is not just me that appreciate having edit summaries. When you omit your summary, you may be telling various bots that you are vandalizing pages. For this reason, please consider providing that summary. It is very important.

The edit summary appears in black italics in the following places: * Use the enhanced watchlist to see all recent changes in the watched pages, not just the last change in each page.

[edit] about the horridus article

hi! sorry for this delayed response, i am basically offline every weekends. as to your concern regarding the horridus article, dont worry. i also had the same dilemma before when i copy/pasted from a source website the article about medical transcription, but i learned my mistake =) the technique here is, its ok to use an existing source (website) to create an article of yours, but the thing is, you need to translate its contents into your own or perhaps, you can rephrase the contents in your own words. wikipedia is strict about copyright policy because wikipedia is running only for free and voluntarily. if a company sues wikipedia for copyright violation, then poor jimbo would be forced to shut this down. btw, im using a restricted internet site, so right now i cant browse the source site youve given where you based your article content. but what i noticed is that you also placed "vital stats" on your article. its a clear cue that the source is copy/pasted. i suggest you remove it. the basic stats (based on wikipedia comic style) is already given through the superhero box. the rest info should be incorporated in the character bio. if you want patterns to create a comic article, heres the links you can use:

well, not much but i hope it helps, if you have any further questions, please dont hesitate to drop me a note =) happy wikiying! †Bloodpack† 14:29, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

well, yes i guess so, its really not that notable to know whats the height or weight of a character. but most important is who is the creator of the character, when it was created, publisher, what comicbook issue, character bio, etc. also as per comic naming convention, comicbook titles should be italicized =) (as per the character appearance section) †Bloodpack† 17:28, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] List of The Real Ghostbusters episodes

Hey there, I just got your message about the RGBs list. I'm not too concerned about the air dates, it's a good idea to have them tho. I applaud that you took the time to add them, and I was going to eventually double-check your dates -- I've got an old episode guide list on my computer, plus there's several resources around the Internet, which you also used, but again I don't feel too concerned. The real problem with determining the "seasons" is that some episodes were made for ABC, and some were made for syndication, and it's difficult to sort them out, and nothing was aired in the same order as production. Anyway, it appears that whoever is connecting from IP 81.145.240.145 is upset about it, and made comments and vandalised the list. Last time I looked at it, other editors who had tried to fix the vandalism, hadn't noticed that all of Season 2 had been removed, so I restored it to your version. No worries!Salamurai 14:27, 1 February 2007 (UTC) Oh, as far as what to do about it, I was going to compare the episodes airdates against the list at www.epguides.com, and I know there are lists at various RGB fansites. Eventually everything will be correct and verifyable, not that it will stop people who are unhappy with it ... Salamurai 14:29, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
