Rachel Van Houten was born in 1974 in Rochester, New York. She grew up near Woodstock, Vermont, attending high school at Woodstock Union High School. She attended Bates College, graduating with a B.S. in Biology in 1996. She received her M.S. in Environmental Studies in 2003 from Antioch New England Graduate School.

Rachel currently works at the Montshire Museum of Science in Norwich, Vermont. www.montshire.org

Rachel's interests include kayaking, quilting, nature study (especially insects), and drawing. She owns a mudskipper named Erasmus.
