Rust was born in Stockton, California. A short time later, he moved Modesto, California, where he attended school until he hit junior college, when he left to pursue music full-time. Epique played with such bands as "Kinesthesia", "Xit", "The Limit", and "Cliff Morrison". In 1989, he relocated to Hollywood. He is most noted for being an ex-member of the band Crazy Town.

In 1999, Epique joined the band Crazy Town, a rapcore band from Los Angeles. Crazy Town peaked with the single "Butterfly", which featured his guitar work. Epique quit the band over "musical differences"[citation needed] and went out on his own. He formed the band Rustandthesuperheroes and began working on a 4 track demo CD to shop to the record labels. In 2003, Epique received a deal from V2 Records to start a band called Pre)thing. They cut a CD entitled "22nd Century Lifestyle". The first single from the CD, entitled "Faded Love" was entering the charts until Epique's untimely death.

Epique was found dead of a heart attack in his home in Las Vegas.
