Russian national women's ice hockey team

The Russian national women's ice hockey team is controlled by Ice Hockey Federation of Russia. Russia is currently ranked 6th in the world in women's hockey. It has been very difficult for the Russians to move higher than this position, except for in the 2001 Women's World Ice Hockey Championships, where they surprised many by upsetting the Finnish national women's ice hockey team in the bronze medal final 2-1. Russia has 237 female players (2005). The head coach is Viktor Krutov
