[edit] 1991 first overall NFL pick

Maryland was the first overall pick in the 1991 NFL Draft, by the Dallas Cowboys. Even though the Cowboys made the playoffs that year, they used a draft choice acquired in a trade involving Herschel Walker to make Maryland the number one overall choice.

Prior to joining the NFL, Maryland played college football at the University of Miami and high school football at Whitney Young High School, a Chicago public school.
