Russ Meyer (baseball player)

Russell Charles Meyer (Rowdy or The Mad Monk) (born October 25, 1923, in Peru, Illinois – died November 16, 1998, in Oglesby, Illinois) was a Major League Baseball right-handed pitcher.

Signed by the Chicago White Sox as an amateur free agent in 1942, Meyer would make his Major League Baseball debut with the Chicago Cubs on September 13, 1946, and appear in his final game on June 28, 1959.

The book Carl Erskine's Tales from the Dodgers Dugout: Extra Innings (2004) includes short stories from former Dodger pitcher Carl Erskine. Meyer is prominent in many of these stories.
