Hi! I have reverted your edit of the article on the U-2 Crisis of 1960 because

• one-sentence paragraphs are generally recommended against and
• you broke the links to the Hebrew and Japanese articles on the topic.

Regarding the second point, I recommend that you check your browser settings. Your browser may have problems with Unicode characters, and if it does, you might want to repair it before editing articles on which it might malfunction. You should also check for problems with Unicode in your previous contributions and correct them. (If you cannot do that, tell me and I’ll go through them.) —xyzzy_n 23:52, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

I’ve talked to the ELinks people on IRC:

‘<Scrool> xyzzy_n: I'm afraid that ELinks can't be used with wikipedia even with my UTF-8 support. There is also used combining characters which isn't right now handled by ELinks.’

So, for the moment, I’m afraid that you have the choice between hacking ELinks to work properly with UTF-8 (not an easy task) and using something else. At the moment, the only text-mode browser with reasonable UTF-8 support of which I am aware is w3m. You might want to try it. (However, I’ve never tried editing Wikipedia with it.) I like (E)Links, too, but I switched to Firefox when I got a faster machine. After reading more stuff, it seems that w3m won’t work either, and that lynx is the only known text browser that might work. (Links in graphical mode, too.) About dealing with non-Unicode browsers, I doubt that it makes sense to ban them (identifying this sort of thing is tricky at best), but putting some kind of notice on relevant edit pages would make sense to me. Some places:

• Wikipedia:Browser notes,
• Wikipedia:Village pump (technical),
• MediaZilla.

Read the rules where appropriate and submit/discuss/whatever (but it’s probably a good idea to do that in one place). Drop me a line when you do. ☺ —xyzzy_n 14:14, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
