[edit] Name

The name Rungis was recorded for the first time in a royal charter of 1124 as Rungi Villa. The name Rungi is apparently a corruption of Romiacum, the original meaning being "estate of Romius". The entire village was once owned by Romius, and his chateau is the current city hall. As recent as the 1950's, the chateau was twice the size of the current building. It and its grounds, which were like a city park, were surrounded by a tall wall with large wrought iron gates. Aside from the chateau on the grounds, there were also two small houses, a dog kennel, a swimming pool, and a carriage house.

[edit] Transport

Rungis is served by Rungis – La Fraternelle station on Paris RER line C.
