[edit] Plot summary

The episode begins in the Gekko infirmary, where the Vodarek priest rescued in "Substance Abuse" conducts a ritual to remove the Scub from Eureka's body, using the yellow liquid that Holland received in "Paper Moon Shine". Although the priest succeeds in removing the Scub, Eureka's face and arm retain scars from her experience, and she has lost hair.

The next scene is a flashback of the closing scene from "Substance Abuse". Renton abruptly wakes up screaming from the scene, which was evidently a nightmare. He broods over the fact that he's taken several lives since joining Gekkostate, gorging himself on potato chips. He tries to see Eureka, but is informed by Mischa and the children that no one is permitted to see her. Matthieu pays him a visit in the shop, and informs Renton that Gekkostate is in fact a group that will kill to survive.

Renton pays Eureka a visit after luring the children away with a toy mouse. He tells her that even though she told him they were fighting a war, the reality of the matter hadn't sunk in until recently. He tries to tell her that he fought for her because he loves her, but he ends up scaring her instead. Thinking that he failed in his purpose to protect Eureka, Renton packs his belongings and lift board. He pauses briefly when he remembers the Amita Drive his grandfather entrusted to him, but he gives it up. He tells Gonzy to tell everyone "goodbye" before jumping out of the Gekko in a parachute.

In the next scene, a group of bandit LFO riders flee as a bomb explodes in an airport. Charles Beams is called away from his meal to deal with the group by his wife, Ray. A pair of LFOs riding a longboard launch from a ship, and the bandit LFOs turn to attack them. The bandits' carrier manages to destroy the longboard, but skirt-like fins extend from the pursuing LFOs, who proceed to destroy the enemy LFOs and the carrier, as well as pick up some "bonus treasure".

The scene abruptly changes as Dominic is knocked to the ground by a bored Anemone's fist. Her sour mood quickly brightens, however, at the mere mention of Dewey, who is meeting with the Beams couple. He offers them a chance to finish matters with Holland, and they recite Adrock Thurston's signature statement.

Talho tells Holland that he should understand Renton's feelings, but Holland insists Renton is dangerous. Talho storms off in disgust, and after searching the ship, she discovers from Gonzy that Renton is gone. In the closing scene, Renton, alone in a deserted area, wonders what to do next.
