Rukmal Cooray

Rukmal Cooray is a Sri Lankan tennis player. There have been very few internationally recognised tennis players in the country's history.

Rukmal's father Godfrey Cooray is a renowned player. He was educated at St. Joseph's College, Colombo, and learned tennis at the Ja-Ela/Kandana Tennis Club. Winning the Boys' under-8 Junior National Championship at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) in 1997 was his first success.

Rukmal was the only Sri Lankan who qualified at the South Asia Tennis Championship in Colombo in 2003. He won a full scholarship to Asian International School where he continued his studies. In 2002, he was selected to follow a training course at Nick Bolleteri Tennis Academy USA and in the same year, he received a fully-fledged scholarship to undergo training at Woodlands Tennis Academy in London. Presently his training is done at SLTA.
