Description

Lieutenant Rufus G. Herring, USNR. Halftone reproduction of a photograph, copied from the official publication "Medal of Honor, 1861-1949, The Navy", page 205. Rufus G. Herring received the Medal of Honor for "conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life" on 17 February 1945, during the Battle of Iwo Jima. He was a Lieutenant (Junior Grade) at the time of that action.
