[edit] Basic Information

Matt grew up in South Windsor, Ontario, but has lived the second half of his life in Lasalle. He is currently in 12th grade at high school, but, if all goes as planned, will soon be attending college studying animation and graphic design. He is an advocate for the eradication of furry culture, and hates a lot of other subcultures as well. As for his particular style, he shifts back and forth from classic ska/mod fashion to the late-70's punk look. He is not necessarily a "ska kid" or "punk" but rather chooses not to give himself a concrete label. TV shows he enjoys include Chappelle's Show, The Daily Show With Jon Stewart, Invader Zim, and the Kids In The Hall. Aside from these programs, however, he has an undying hatred for television.

[edit] "Wigglepuppy"

Matt is a member of Deviantart, under the name "wigglepuppy." Due to the "grotesquely large" amount of anthro, anime, and overall artistically-defunct drawings submitted to the site, Matt has frequently reported having an increasing contempt for it. He deems the message boards "full of idiots," and frequents them out of a morbid curiosity, often posting snide remarks to threads he deems "time-wasting" or simply "dumb". The tone of his comments is influenced by the Something Awful writer Zachary "Spokker Jones" Guiterrez, who writes "The Weekend Web."

With 3,277 (as of February 28, 2005) message board posts, he has earned a reputation amongst the deviantART community for being overly sarcastic, elitist, and condescending, yet he is admired by some for his sharp sense of humour and brutal honesty. A mass majority of his forum posts are replies to other people's threads (most of them typical of his persona), but he occasionally makes his own. His rants are usually angry and overtly critical, and generally have to do with an aspect of today's society that he finds irritating or stupid. The posts naturally generate a few angry or insulted responses, but are often praised and agreed with by others. Users have coined the phrase "classic Wigglepuppy," suggesting that his musings have earned a small degree of fame among dA members. One user claimed to agree with his posts before even reading them, simply by knowing he was the author.

Victims of his hateful rants include:

On June 5, 2004, he posted his first 'famous' thread. It was a brief post in which he expressed a distaste for the large amount of anime drawings on deviantART. Due to the popularity of the genre amongst users, the thread caused a major uproar, collecting hundreds of angry responses. Matt's credibility was not nearly as developed as it currently is, nor were his skills at arguing, insults, or sarcasm. He now admits to "making an ass of himself" with the post and with his replies to the flames it provoked. Said flames rolled in until the thread was closed by admins on June 28.

The name "wigglepuppy" is a reference to The Simpsons. One episode reveals that Ralph Wiggum created an imaginary dog called "Wiggle Puppy," who flies by wagging its tail. Several people who were unaware of this have accused Matt of being a closeted furry and therefore hypocritical in his hatred of them, simply because a type of animal is included in his nickname.

[edit] Artistic Achievements

Matt has made several drawings, graphics, paintings, and animations that are currently on the Internet, and several more that aren't.

[edit] Animation

One of his most viewed creations is the first episode of his abandoned Gilbert animated series (2003), which can be seen here on Newgrounds. At a view count of 2291, it's tragically unpopular compared to most successful Newgrounds Flash animations [which can rack up view counts of over a million]. However, reviews were positive, and the few people who saw it wanted more. Matt began work on Episode 2, in which the animation quality far exceeded the first, but abandoned it upon losing interest in the character and series.

Since then, his animation skill has further improved, and he is now working with a friend on a cartoon in which animated versions of himself and his partner-in-crime go on a killing spree targeted at members of various youth subculture groups that they are not particularly fond of. A preview of this cartoon can be seen here on his Deviantart account.

Matt uses the "frame-by-frame" style of Flash animation - in which a new drawing is made for every frame - as opposed to the "tween" style which utilizes pre-made symbols that are automatically animated by the program. The characters in his cartoons are predominantly stick figures, mainly for the ease and due to influence by one of his animation heroes, Don Hertzfeldt.

[edit] Drawing and Painting

Matt has been drawing since he can remember. His artistic skill had taken a great leap in the summer of 2003 when he went to an art camp in Detroit, Michigan, and has more recently developed his style even further.

As unwilling to admit it as he is, he once drew in anime style before his art-camp experience. He abruptly aborted immediately afterwards the usage of this style, which he views as "clichéd" and "overused," in hopes of developing a more unique and personalized one.

His search for a style was difficult until he was able to find suitable influences. Though Matt has a tendency to mimic greatly these artists' styles shortly after appointing them as his mentors, their influence gradually becomes less obvious over time. Matt is a strong believer in developing one's own unique style and is opposed to the blatant emulation of another artist or pre-made style (this being the main reason for his distate for anime artists).

Matt's skill is constantly developing, so much so that he has great difficulty looking at drawings he made mere months ago.

[edit] Interests

[edit] Music

Matt is a fan of ska and old-school punk music, as well as various forms of electronica and bands not identified to specific genres. On the blacker side of things, he also enjoys Motown, Funk, Soul, and 40s-to-60s-era R&B. He also has some guitar-playing skill, and plays a Gibson SG. Though his lack of formal training prevents him from attaining a professional level of skill (though that is a relative term), he still has enough to play ska, punk, and most other types of music that do not require advanced or complex skills. He can play the lead solos to some songs, but nothing particularly complicated. He doesn't often write music, but enjoys playing songs by The Misfits, Weezer, The Specials, and others.
