Ruddy

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ruddy is a reddish or rosy colour, usually considered a dirty, dusty or dark-coloured reddish orange. It can also mean a shade of orangey brown, like the colour found on the Ruddy Duck, or even a rich red.

In the United Kingdom and some other parts of the Commonwealth, "ruddy" is also used as a mild expletive attributive (rather like "dang" or "darn") in place of the more offensive "bloody".

The root word of admoni (from the Biblical Hebrew) appears in descriptions of Esau and King David, where the description is commonly interpreted as 'ruddy' or 'red-haired' (1 Samuel 16-17).
