Rubix studio

Rubix Studio is the transformative digital moniker of Rudolf D. French. Other psuedonyms include "Killer Ducky" and "Bobby The Howze Mowze." An original member of the fusion-jazz ensemble "Five Guys Who Can't Count" based out of Fort Collins, Colorado, Rudolf broke off from the band in early 2006 to fly solo as an electronic musician.

An artist on the independent label Pirate Radio, Rubix Studio has mixed tape collages around Colorado and the Pacific Northwest with air-condition-sized, reel to reel tape decks for almost 10 years. Described by the artist as "the lost soundtracks to a David Lynch student film or what could be heard on the Victrola while you hallucinated in an opium den" most of the sounds are in the acoustic frequency range, though they are not actually audible by the human ear. These sounds are produced by processing the original wave data in much the same way that a radio station processes radio signals.

Distorted reality pervades: its sound can cause you to stare into blank space, struggling to remind yourself that you still stand on planet Earth from time to time. The artist's ten-plus albums build on repetition and conceptual sample development that aim for spiritual trancendence. Often heard throughout the catalogue are industrial clang, electric guitar blurbs, life support drones, rain on tin and string orchestras that seem to be lost in the woods.

Working primarily in the studio with scotch tape and razor blades fed through a digital interface, Rubix Studio attempts to prove that a worrisome but vibrant imagination plus a tape recorder can be just as powerful as any DSP firestorm.

The solo artist now resides in Portland, Oregon where he attends school and creates art.
