Rubén Omar Romano

Rubén Omar Romano Cachia (born on May 18, 1958 in Buenos Aires) is an Argentine-Mexican coach and former football player whose career has developed entirely in Mexico, country to which he came to play professional football in the early 80s. He currently coaches the Mexican side CF Atlas.
Romano played in Argentina for Club Atlético Huracán before leaving to Mexico in 1980 to play for Club América. He played in other 6 Mexican clubs: León, Necaxa, Puebla, Querétaro, Cruz Azul and Atlante. He is remembered as a left footed player with great talent for free kicks as well as extraordinary play maker.
He retired as a player in Atlante in 1996. The same year he became the auxiliary coach of Ricardo Lavolpe for Atlas. Since then he has built a reputation for himself as one of the most recognized coaches in the Mexican first division leading Monarcas Morelia to two finals, although he is yet to win a championship.
He also worked as a coach for Celaya (1998-200), Tecos (2000-2002), Morelia (2002-2004 ), Pachuca (2004), and Cruz Azul (2005).With Pachuca, he qualified for the Copa Libertadores.
Cruz Azul qualified for the Mexican playoffs in Romanos' first season with the team, but lost to rivals América. Romano has qualified for the play offs in six occasions in different teams.
Romano was kidnapped in July 19, 2005 near Xochimilco, in Mexico City. He was then rescued in the night of September 21 of 2005, 65 days after the kidnapping, by agents of the Federal Investigation Agency (AFI). He returned to work a few days after. He was relieved of his duties with the club on December 9, 2005 after coaching for eleven matches [1] during which time Cruz Azul won two, drew three and lost five.
