RTÉ DAB Multiplex

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The RTÉ DAB Multiplex is the only Digital audio broadcasting multiplex available in Ireland at present, broadcasting to Dublin and the north-east of the country. It broadcasts on DAB channel 12C, 227.360 MHz. It is transmitted from the Three Rock Mountain and Clermont Carn transmitter sites belonging to RTÉ Network Limited. Testing began on the multiplex as far back as 2001, although it was withdrawn. Further testing began on January 1, 2006; this time publicly announced by RTÉ. The network was officially launched on November 30 2006[1]. It is the first public terrestrial digital radio system in the country, and RTÉ's first public terrestrial digital system. These tests were meant to last three months, but continued in total for just over six months, with RTÉ applying for a full-time licence [1].

Six channels are carried, unencrypted. All services are in Stereo apart from the AM (RTÉ Radio 1) Simulcast. They are all broadcast in MP2.
