[edit] Detroit

Despite what you may have heard there is nightlife in Detroit and nice apartments and condos, many downtown along the riverfront. Normally the first thing I would mention is that Detroit levies an income tax of 2.65% on residents, 1.325% on non-residents but I don't know if that would apply in your case. That is one reason many people choose to live in the suburbs, not the city itself. Nightlife in the suburbs is more popular especially in Royal Oak, Dearborn, Windsor, Ontario in Canada and the university town of Ann Arbor. Hiking opportunities include the metro parks along the Huron and Clinton Rivers which offer walking, bicycling, limited hiking, canoeing, swimming, etc. And a 45 minute drive west of the city is the Pinckney-Waterloo State Recreation Area which includes a 40-mile trail for backpacking. Note that you will certainly need your own car in this area even if you live in the city. There is no rail/tram system and bus service is available but insufficient. Rmhermen 13:57, Feb 15, 2005 (UTC)
