[edit] License tagging for Image:Strongenough.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Strongenough.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Dovelamore.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Dovelamore.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Hetar 03:57, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] List of Cher Songs

I erased List of Cher Songs for the obvious reason. I see you note re it is intended to be incorporated into the Cher page. In that case, create your table on this page, or somewhere else. It should not be created as an article when it isn't one and isn't intended to be one. Someone might come along and delete it! ):- Cheers Moriori 04:08, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Jump (Madonna Song)

That link provided is not "charting" as per WP:MUSIC, that is the airplay rotation chart of a singular radio station. Charts are made by anlysis of single sales and airplay. I'm removing the chart again; Wikipedia is not a crystal ball. Feel free to create another chart in the fall when the single is actually released. Happy editing to you, thanks for messaging me. Teke 18:35, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] re: Cher

Hi, thanks... the info is correct now, the sources I have do not show "Dove L'amore" entering the chart. "All or Nothing" hit the Hot 100 Sales (component) chart, and "Dove" was its B-side, but neither were in the main Hot 100. -- eo 20:13, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

Done  :-) I corrected the templates, etc to adhere to Wikipedia guidelines too. -- eo 20:22, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
Well, right now the actual Single Infobox template is messed up, which affects tons of articles. I have no clue who did what or how, but I ain't touching it! I hope someone can correct it soon. -- eo 21:11, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
I can't block him or anything because I am not an administrator but I have had several conversations with him regarding his chart sources and he has gotten angry with me. I'm keeping a watch on the articles he is working on to make sure he isn't inserting incorrect stuff. If he continues to be a problem you can leave him a message and try to resolve... if that doesn't help your last resort would be to report the IP address for vandalism. -- eo 21:28, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
I'm going to admit this: I've lost track of who's doing what on the Cher article. If there's an argument going on about where a particular song belongs, the argument should take place on the article's talk page. If the other guy refuses to discuss it, then point him out for me and I'll block him. DS 01:02, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cher chart stats

Hey, just thought I'd elaborate on the Cher chart positions I have (both in Joel Whitburn Billboard reference books and also online through Billboard's chart archive services. The only problem I have is that the U.S. chart column header says "Hot 100" so if a position is taken from a different source, it should be noted. My guess (you'll have to confirm this) is that the positions you put there that are below number 100 are from the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart. If so, maybe we should add a footnote so that there is a source. Also, I have chart positions for two songs that did NOT hit the Hot 100, but instead entered a component chart called Hot 100 Singles Sales. I don't know how familiar you are with Billboard charts, but you may want to read the Wikipedia articles on them.... Hot 100 Singles Sales and the Billboard Hot 100 are not the same thing. "All or Nothing" went to #38 on the Sales chart and "A Different Kind of Love Song" went to #11 on the Sales chart. As I mentioned above I've researched and found no chart stats for "Dov'e L'amore". I see no problem with putting these numbers into the table on the Cher page, but a footnote needs to be put there in order to differentiate the chart positions. You may want to look at Pet Shop Boys discography for a good example. If you look thru their singles, someone put footnotes in there and placed parenthesis around some numbers, which I think is a great idea... It looks clean and is easily explained below the singles table.

You're obviously a big Cher fan and you've worked really hard to make her article accurate, so I thought I'd write you a note so that we do not get into an edit war over this. I just wanted to explain my edits. Let me know what you think. -- eo 14:24, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Yes, the "195" person changed a bunch of stuff again today and inflated all the sales numbers. I reverted all the new text they added and left a note on their talk page. -- eo 20:10, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cher table

Actually, it does matter how long an article is... that's why the automated message pops up once articles get to a certain length. I did not realize that the CHER table had more than the DISCOGRAPHY table... Sorry about that, they both looked identical to me. If one list is bigger and includes more, then we definitely should use that one. -- eo 23:11, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Your recent contribution(s) to Wikipedia are very much appreciated. However, you did not provide references or sources for your information. Keeping Wikipedia accurate and verifiable is very important, and as you might be aware there is currently a drive to improve the quality of Wikipedia by encouraging editors to cite the sources they used when adding content. Can you provide in the article specific references to any books, articles, websites or other reliable sources that will allow people to verify the content in the article? You can use a citation method listed at inline citations that best suits each article. Thanks!

Also, Wikipedia articles (like all encyclopedia articles) are supposed to provide general overviews of topics. They are not supposed to be indiscriminate collections of information. Please do not insert excessive amounts of chart positions. Extraordinary Machine 15:36, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RBD singles

I am not messing up the names. Letters in Spanish (and French) titles shouldn't be all capitalised. See Wikipedia:Naming conventions and u'll see. -- Luigi-ish 09:30, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] When the Money's Gone

Your recent change to the article of "When the Money's Gone" is incorrect. Wikipedia article are about songs, not singles. I do wish you'd discussed the changes before going through with them. As it stands, the article needs to be reverted to its former state. GassyGuy 01:53, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

What I mean is, the articles are made to be about the songs, not the singles. That's the same reason we don't do separate articles for different versions of songs. GassyGuy 02:32, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

I went ahead and fixed the "When the Money's Gone" article. If "Love One Another" is a notable song, then go ahead and write a new article about it. If it isn't a notable song, then there's no reason to do anything. In the future, remember, articles are written about the songs, even if two notable songs appear on the same single. That is why there are separate articles, for example, for "What Goes On (The Beatles song)" and "Nowhere Man," even though they were the a-side and b-side of the same single. GassyGuy 19:53, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

Sure, go ahead and write that article. GassyGuy 21:11, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Dutch Official Singles Chart

The Dutch Top 40 is more known than the Mega Top 50 and is considered the official singles chart. It is also more used as the national singles chart (here as well as outside the Netherlands). I can know it, I live here. -- Luigi-ish 15:25, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Songs vs singles

I just wondered why an article can't be specifically about a single. And what should be done in the case of double-A side singles? Should I do some article splitting? And merging of cover versions? Thanks. — AnemoneProjectors (talk) 22:30, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, I meant to ask GassyGuy that question, but was reading your talk page at the time and got mixed up! :) — AnemoneProjectors (talk) 22:34, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Jump (Madonna Song) Cover

Once again, this is the more "reasonable" cover, it coincides with her HM campaign. The other cover is NOT professionally done (its so blatantly evident), it is fan art. I am not sure as to why amazon has that as the cover. Amazon also has the wrong cover for Janet's 20 yo and (for a short period) Christina's Back to Basics. I know that customer's can submit images to Amazon. This seems to be a joke, however, as a professional graphic designer (3 years exp.) I can tell you that discoball cover is NOT professionally done: 1. The resoultion is just horrible. It appears that this person created this image in their scanner's image editor software or Paint. Not even an inexperienced person with Photoshop would have a bad resoultion as that! 2. The fonts do not match. Yes, in the past three covers, Madonna, they all have that "disco" effect to them but also have the same font. (Get Together was the first cover from COADF to have the discoball). The font that is used is specially made to resemble Madonna's handwriting (as you can also see in IGTTYAS. It's done similarly to how you sign for your cc charges at Wal Mart or Sears but more compliacted then I can explain (actually haven't sucessfully done it). The font used on the "believed" single is a common used computer font.

I have read that "Jump" will not be marketed as the other three singles. Madonna wants this one to do well in the U.S. so she can release "I Love NY" or "Forbidden Love" [i forgot which one]. I've also read that the cover for Jump will coincide with her HM campaign.

It's kinda hard for me to believe that this is Madonna's cover for Jump given her pervious covers (going beyond COADF) but if it is, I deeply apologize. I guess we'll know when its released on the 25th and her offical website posts the cover.

[edit] Re: Love Hurts Tour

You don't have to have tour dates to have a tour article. Indeed many admins hate tour dates as "indiscriminate collection of information", fancruft, etc; they think the tour dates should just be ext linked to. More important is to explain why a particular tour was artistically important, culturally significant, especially successful commercially, etc. One thing the current two Cher tour articles lack is a description of what the audience is like at them — age levels? male/female ratio? gay/straight ratio? there for the music, the spectacle, or both? do they treat the opening acts kindly? That sort of thing. How do the concerts relate to Cher as a cultural/sociological phenomenon, in other words. Wasted Time R 12:02, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RBD discography

I did not change it for my own use, but many people change the things, and by adding references people who visit the RBD discography know it's the truth. I don't know why u have deleted the references, but I am adding them back if u deleted them for no reason. Take example of the Britney Spears discography, Christina Aguilera discography, Mariah Carey discography and much more. They're all referenced. -- Luigi-ish 14:39, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

U did remove the singles references... I'm not looking for a fight either by the way. -- Luigi-ish 21:33, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Dianewarren3.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:Dianewarren3.JPG. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Do you have a source? You should know the rules by now, I don't want to have you warned for posting unverifiable information. Without a source, cannot be posted. This isn't some fan site for you to post what you hear, it's facts only. Swisspass 08:52, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] All Good Things (Come to an End) and Say It Right

Please do not insert section headers in articles that are only two paragraphs long. Wikipedia:Guide_to_layout#Structure_of_the_article recommends (for good reason) against short sections, which is particularly relevant to these articles, in which the entire body of text is small enough to become the one "section". On a related note, it doesn't make much sense to label a section of a song article "Song information"; readers are likely to expect the entire article will contain information about the song. Also, "References" should only be used to mark sections that contain sources for the information in the article. Thanks. Extraordinary Machine 14:20, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] re:Madonna charts

Yeah, I saw what he did... "Jump" and "Get Together" (dont know if he's done others). Looks like what he is doing is separating sales and airplay. That in itself doesn't bother me so long as the tables adhere to WP:MUSIC/TABLE and the positions are verifiable (I noticed he is adding a lot of external links). One thing I did remove was a whole bunch of countries he added where "Jump" has not yet charted (it had a bunch of dashes). I am ok with either method, as long as it is accurate. Perhaps a discussion on the Talk Page could be started about whether sales and airplay could be in different columns. - eo 01:30, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

What you're doing is fine by me... if people are adding inflated positions without a source then it should be removed. I'll keep me eye on them too. - eo 21:38, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Song-for-the-lonely-live.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Oden 07:58, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Cher and "read it urself"

I have reverted this edit based on your edit summary. Wikipedia's verifiability policy requires editors who wish data to remain in articles to cite a reliable source for the data. While your summary was suggestive of a source, it did not specify where in "the 2007 guinness book of world records" this data can be found, and policy requires that you provide it, not that readers go searching for it. Please understand, the data may well be correct; but, since the "threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth", any data added that cannot be verified with one click from a cited source can be deleted at any time. Please read any of Wikipedia's featured articles for help with citing sources. Thanks. :) RadioKirk (u|t|c) 03:05, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Number-one singles on the United World Chart

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Number-one singles on the United World Chart, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at Talk:Number-one singles on the United World Chart. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. [edit] re: Template

"Cher" is (apart from the artist) the ISO 15924 code for the Cherokee script. I'm creating a set of templates to mark u[ different writing systems in Wikipedia articles and for consistency and clarity it is quite important the template names are the smae as the ISO codes. Unfortunatly the {{Cher (navbox)}} was in in the way, fortunatly there is plenty of freedom to choose a name for a navigational box, so I moved the template. [edit] re:Madonna discography

Hey there.... not sure what to do about this one. Unfortunately Im not familiar at all with UWC or how they calculate their charts. The best I can tell you is to tell editors not to change stuff around without some sort of source or documentation that specifically shows the sales figures.... or at the very least perhaps a page within UWC's webpage that explains their chart methodologies. - eo 22:31, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for your comments on Madonna Discography. This has already been discussed on the discussion page. The issue has been, and you are also aware of, that many of the discography pages are referencing the United World Charts data and portraying them as 'sales'. I have seen this on several that you also edit. If you are aware of the issue (and I know you are), I find it irresponsible to neither mention the fact, or amend the data. You do not. As for the fact that the figures have been adjusted to account for airplay, I have amended some, others have also attributed. UWC specifically mentioned that 42% of their figures were sales. After someone contacting them, this figure was adjusted to 49%. It is irrelevant on whether aiplay is probably larger for some artists, as this is how they have quoted that they obtain their figures. It is a verifiable fact, and therefore the figures adjusted can be referenced to this. You must remember that we are not here to create our own research, but to use existing research. Currently, this is the only given research people are using. Find another source, and the argument goes away. I do NOT agree with editors that think using the data as sales is acceptable, or that saying these also equate to certifications, are assisting with the article. They are rather hampering the process on getting the details correct. Please feel free to bring in an administrator as you so wish. You have the opportunity to participate in the article discussion page also. 60.234.242.196 09:22, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:All-singles-best.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:All-singles-best.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BigDT 22:35, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Good job

Just wanted to drop by and say thanks for cleaning/organizing the tables on the Nelly Furtado discography. Well done! Ô 17:24, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

No, you do not make any sense. When including the UK and U.S. chart positions, the singles charts are used, not the airplay charts. When it comes to the Canadian chart, we still use the singles chart as the main one unless a song is not commercially issued, therefore, making it airplay-only. "Promiscuous" was a Canadian number-one and an airplay number-two; "Maneater" was a Canadian number-twenty-two and an airplay number-five; "Say It Right" is airplay-only thus far and has peaked at number-two. [edit] Kelly Clarkson Discography

I happen to work with RCA Records (can even show ya the multi-platinum award with my name from Kelly's albums). fact is, BEfore Your Love did peek at the same as A Moment Like This, but was only there for 1 week, A Moment Like This took it's place the following week. The video for BYL also premiered first, and was replaced on MTV's TRL countdown one month later. As for the singles you had listed, A Grown Up Christmas List was never a single, Breakaway was a single from the Princess Diaries II soundtrack, before there even was a Breakaway album (and several weeks before the movie even premiered in mid-2004), Gone was never a single. Respect was actually a single, also from a movie, but charted before the movie soundtrack breifly (charted better in Japan where it was released on the Breakaway album). I've had to keep track os such things as I've also worked with her official fan club, Official RCA website, foriegn Sony/BMG offical sites, and various management associates passing along the information to record-keeping as it all happened. btw.. who is in charge of making people 'responsable' for open editting wiki's?

look i don't want to waste time by fighting with ppl lets keep the table simple for "charted songs" in the end it makes her look better, and about BYL you will have to provide a source because I've checked Billboard and even All Music and they have no records for it charting. It's better to have a charted song than to have an ugly big note saying it charted it's simple and clearer and less reading
