Royal Deuces

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bold textThe Royal Deuces to put it simply, are in fact the original version of the Insane Deuces. Ex. The Gangsta Disciples and the Insane Gangsta Disciples. The Deuces street gang originated as a result of a merger between two street gangs on the Northside of Chicago in the mid 1960s. The two gangs were the Blackhawks, who controlled the Lathrop Homes, and the Barons, who controlled the Hamlin Park area. The ideology that these two organizations made this merge would then represent their moniker, hence the "Deuces". The Deuces gang title symbolized the unity between the two original clubs. In the 1960s, the Deuces were a mostly White organization, however, unlike most White street gangs at the time, the Deuces did not adopt any White supremicist themes. The Deuces consisted of a various White (mostly European-American) nationalities as well as a modest number of Latino club members. In the late 1960s, the Deuces formed a relationship with the Latin Kings street gang. During the 1970s, the Deuces began to recruit more Latino's as many Latino youth came forward to join the organization. The Deuces developed a well rounded membership on the Northside. The Deuces consolidated their control over the Hamlin Park area, engaging in territory battles with other street gangs in the community. In the late 1970s, the Deuces opened a suburban chapter in Aurora, Illinois, being one of the first inner-city street gangs to operate in the Chicagoland suburbs. Due to the Deuces and Latin Kings tight-knit relationship, the Deuces joined the People alliance in 1980. The Deuces at one point were very social within the People alliance, also establishing friendly ties with the Gaylords, Stoned Freaks, and Vice Lords street gangs. During the early 1980s, the Deuces concepts and membership thrived throughout the Northwest sides of Chicago and Aurora, IL. The Deuces were solidified in bascially all area's of operation. As the Deuces grew stronger the gang would encounter several other neighborhood street gangs that would become consistent rivals. One era that held a significant role in the Deuces during the 80's was a bloody war against the Simon City Royals street gang, in which many lives were lost on both sides.

In the late 1980s, a number of inner-city street gang chapters developed more organized within the suburb of Aurora. One of these chapters, were that of the Deuces allies, the Latin Kings. However, in 1989, the Deuces and Latin Kings gang members in Aurora began to experience difficulties operating in the vicinity of each other. Small altercations and disagreements would eventually turn violent, however, the fact of the two organizations both belonging to the People alliance, the groups briefly sought alternatives to their conflicts. Never the less, by 1990, where the Deuces are at their strongest in membership, a war erupted between the Deuces and Latin Kings from what was considered of unusual circumstances. A leader of the Deuces known as "Lil Man" proceeded a relationship with the sister of Latin Kings leader, King Gino. Gino instantly objected to this relationship and informed Lil Man to stop what was perceived to be an "act of disrespect". The situation intensified when the Latin Kings were instructed to kill Lil Man and another member of the Deuces. The Latin Kings attempted to shoot and kill Lil Man, however, he survived the gunshot wounds. The Deuces retaliated for the attempted murder, and shot three members of the Aurora Latin Kings, killing one high-ranking member in the process. Later, Four members of the Deuces were charged with the attempted murder and murder charges for the shootings. In these events, an all-out war escalated in the suburb of Aurora between the Deuces and Latin Kings street gang. Naturally, drive-by shootings became more common and carrying a firearm became apart of everyday life for the gang members. In October of 1990, a high-ranking member of the Aurora Deuces known as "Psycho", was killed by a member of the Latin Kings. While the Deuces and Latin Kings in Aurora were in a state of gang warfare and police intensity increased, the inner-city sections were beginning to experience tension of their own.

Meanwhile, in the Hamlin Park area on Chicago's Northside, the Deuces and Latin Kings began to dispute over dominance of the Lathrop Homes located in the vicinity of Diversey & Clybourn. The Deuces and Latin Kings fought a fierce war over the control of the Lathrop Homes. This war became the key factor that culmintaed the Deuces into joining the Folks alliance. The Vice Lords sided with the Latin Kings on the matters, suspected by Deuces, because a member of the Deuces had previously shot a member of the IIVL's in Aurora mistaken him for a Latin King. This applied pressure to the Deuces membership within the People alliance. During this time, the Deuces organization was experiencing several changes in the city, in their Aurora base, and throughout the correctional facilities. In 1991, the Deuces street gang severed their ties and affiliation to the People alliance. The Deuces operated independently for a short amount of time on the streets. By late 1991, the Deuces established a relationship with the Spanish Cobras street gang. Key members of the Hamlin Park Deuces were believed to be relatives of high-ranking Spanish Cobras. This lead the two organizatons to become more involved in the social aspect on the streets. Deuces gang members who were incarcerated were also seeking allies within the correctiona facilities. In 1992, the Insane Spanish Cobras formed the "Insane Familia", a group of allied Latino Folks gangs aside the umbrella of the Spanish Cobras in the prisons and on the streets. The Deuces were one of the first organizations to join the Insane Familia, which also granted them membership within the Folks alliance.

The alliance breach for the Deuces acted as a positive direction for the organization on Chicago's Northside. However, this also intensified the war between the Deuces and Latin Kings in Aurora. Some members of the Deuces were not in favor of the transformation to the Folks alliance and terminated their affiliation with the Deuces and joined the Latin Kings street gang. Several of the Deuces enemies were also current members of the Folks alliance, due to the fact the Deuces were originally a member of the People alliance and engaged in previous acts of violence against them. Similarly, on the Southside of Chicago the Cullerton Deuces street gang began to feud with the Latin Kings as well. After one of their leaders was fatally shot by members of the Latin Kings, they soon opted to join the Folks alliance, possibly aside the umbrella of the Deuces or Gangster Two-Six street gang. Ironically, the Cullerton Deuces and Deuces developed a relationship within the correctional facilities and the Cullerton Deuces joined the Insane Familia, a group of allied Latino Folks gangs aside the umbrella of the Spanish Cobras in the prisons and on the streets. The Cullerton Deuces are known to represent the colors White & Grey which symbolizes their gangs origination, as well as the traditional Green & Black.

One key example of the Deuces engaging in instant interalliance gang wars took place in Aurora. The Insane Deuces and Satan Disciples street gang had quite an earlier history in Aurora when the Deuces were in the People alliance. Although, the Deuces became members of the Folks alliance, the gang's conflicts and animosity never settled. The Insane Deuces are accredited to once crippling the Satan Disciples chapter in Aurora. In the 1990s, the Deuces also operated actively in the Chicagoland suburb of Elgin. The Elgin chapter initiated a war with the Maniac Latin Disciples street gang after a member of the Deuces killed a member of the Maniac Latin Disciples. The gang's problems spread their influence into the suburb of Aurora where both gang's also held a presence. Eventually, the two gangs began to feud in the suburb of Aurora as well. By the mid-to-late 1990s, the Deuces and Ambrose street gang formed a brief alliance to cripple the Maniac Latin Disciples operations in Aurora. The Deuces also fought with the Spanish Gangster Disciples street gang for some time in the suburb of Elgin. The Deuces were believed to have shot and killed a member of the Spanish Gangster Disciples with no apparent motive. The Deuces have grown to be a well rounded organization throughout the Chicagoland suburbs. In Aurora, the Deuces and Gangster Disciples street gang have off-and-on again ties on the streets. Oftentimes, you can find members of both gang's congregating within the same territory in Aurora, Illinois. In Aurora, the gang suffered a blow from "Operation Stacked Deck", in which several members were arrested on gun and weapons charges in 2001. That probe was followed by "Operation Double Down", in which more members of the gang were arrested on more weapons and drug charges.

The Deuces are at their strongest in membership throughout the Chicagoland suburbs. The Deuces main base of operation remains in the Hamlin Park area on Chicago's Northside. The gangs membership in the city has decreased over the years, however, the Deuces continue to exercise a known presence in the Hamlin Park and Portage Park neighborhoods. The gangs predominant racial make-up has been mostly Latino for the past two decades on the Northside, however, there is a large portion of White members active in the city and suburbs. The Deuces have been challeneged by numerous street gangs on the Northwest sides of Chicago as well as their chapters in the Chicagoland suburbs. The Deuces have also been able to sanction few satellite chapters in Texas along with their counterpart, the Insane Cullerton Deuces. The Deuces have had consistent turmoil with the Latin Kings, Vice Lords, Maniac Latin Disciples, and the Satan Disciples street gangs within their Aurora base. The Deuces principle rivals are the Latin Kings, Insane Unknowns, Maniac Latin Disciples, Simon City Royals, Spanish Gangster Disciples, Satan Disciples, Vice Lords, and Black P. Stones street gangs. The gangs primary criminal involvement has consisted of graffiti, drug trafficking, assault, armed robbery, theft, shootings, and murder. The Deuces main allies are GD's and Crips, but surprisingly have developed a feud with some IGD members.
