Royal Apothecary Society

In the fictional Warcraft Universe, the Royal Apothecary Society is a group of Forsaken who have been entrusted with the duty to develop deadly toxins and poisons to eradicate all life in the world of Azeroth. This job was entrusted to them by Sylvanas Windrunner, leader of the Forsaken.

The Royal Apothecary Society is based out of Apothecarium in the Undercity as a means for all alchemists (particularly Forsaken) to share alchemical knowledge. The banshee queen uses this arm of her government to perfect mixtures for any use she sees fit. The high ranking members of the Society are in positions of very high status among their fellows, as the Society is a major branch of the workings of the Forsaken. The Society's tasks have ranged from brewing experimental potions, to perfecting and releasing deadly plagues. Along with their home base, the Society has agents in most Horde controlled territories, but most notable in the Forsaken controlled territories in and around northern Lordaeron. Emissaries from the Society reside in the Pool of Visions in Thunder Bluff and the Cleft of Shadows in Orgrimmar.

The Royal Apothecary Society seeks to aid their queen in the conquering of Azeroth. With this as their objective, many of the Society's more devious works are kept secret from the rest of the Horde, adding to their mystique and hermitism. The Society's greatest challenge, however, is seeking a remedy to the undead plague. Their primary target is not the living, but their worst enemy: the Scourge, the Lich King's slaves and mindless undead. They seek a way to undo the corruption the Scourge has caused and turn it against them. It is unknown what exactly this will entail, it could be simply a cure, or as extreme as the destruction of all life. As a by product of these many and diverse projects, the Society enlists adventurers to aide their cause. The Society's agents in the field are often found studying rare plants and other far stranger substances to be used in their diabolical elixirs. In World of Warcraft, these agents will issue quests to players that range from picking pumpkins to removing the zealous hearts of holy crusaders.
