Roy L. Dennis
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Roy L. "Rocky" Dennis (1964–1980) was an American boy afflicted with craniodiaphyseal dysplasia, an extremely rare, disfiguring, sclerotic bone disorder. The condition usually results in neurological disorders and death during childhood; Rocky died at the age of 16. Following Rocky's death, his family donated his body to the University of California, Los Angeles for medical research.
Anna Hamilton Phelan wrote a screenplay based loosely on Rocky's life; Peter Bogdanovich directed the resultant film, entitled Mask, in which Eric Stoltz portrays Rocky. Nearly 20 years after the film's release, Swedish pop musician Jens Lekman published Rocky Dennis in Heaven, an EP containing four songs about Rocky and his portrayal in the film.
Florence "Rusty" Tullis, the mother of Rocky Dennis, passed away on November 11, 2006, at age 70 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on October 14. Ms. Tullis was portrayed by Cher in Mask.[1]
Dennis is portrayed in the cartoon television series entitled Family Guy Season 4 Episode 9 in a quick appearance. He is seen as having a mal-disfigured face. In a South Park episode where 'freaks' protest, a character looks very much like Rocky in the background.
