Roxio

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Roxio is a division and brand of Sonic Solutions. It was originally a digital media company created from the 2001 spin-off of Adaptec's Software Products Group followed by the 2002 acquisition of MGI Software. Roxio's management chose to pursue the digital music download and subscription market at the expense of Roxio's CD and DVD products, and soon acquired both Pressplay and the remains of Napster. Needing cash to keep the online music service going, Roxio sold the rest of the company to Sonic Solutions in 2003 and changed its name to Napster, Inc..
