Roxanne Bojarski (born c. 1948) is a fictional character who is the best friend of Meg Pryor on the NBC television show American Dreams. She is played by Vanessa Lengies. Like Meg, Roxanne is a featured dancer on American Bandstand.
Roxanne was born into a Polish-American family (she still speaks some Polish)in a working class neighborhood in Philadelphia. She and Meg have been friends since they were toddlers. Roxanne's parents divorced when she was eight, and while Roxanne loves her mother Lenore, they are not able to spend much time together because Lenore works long hours as a telephone operator. As a result, Roxanne is a frequent dinner guest at the Pryor house, and she also frequently accompanies the Pryors at family events.
Roxanne is characterized as being a bit cheeky and having an insatiable interest in fame and boys, which seems to make her fill the sidekick archetype. Meg is far more interested in principles, changing the world and making her opinions heard, while Roxanne is more interested in enjoying herself. In the second season, she briefly dropped out of school to join her boyfriend Lenny's band, Lenny and the Pilgrims, on a northeastern tour.
In the third season Roxanne's mother moved in with a new boyfriend, but Roxanne refused join her. Instead, Roxanne moved into a loft apartment with her boyfriend Luke Foley.
American Dreams was cancelled by NBC in May of 2005. The final episode, set in August of 1966, ends with Meg making the surprising decision to leave Philadelphia to hide in Berkeley, California with her boyfriend Chris, who is evading the military draft. The final scene of the series ends with Meg and Roxanne in a tearful goodbye, and a heartbroken Roxanne watching as Meg and Chris ride off on a motorcycle.
