Route 66 on the Air

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Route 66 On The Air is an annual amateur radio event.

During the event, amateur radio operators will either operate from locations along U.S. Route 66, or from vehicles travelling on Route 66, or attempt to contact those stations. Special call signs are issued for the duration of the event (usually one week) to clubs operating amateur radio stations along Route 66 - those callsigns are 1x1 calls of the form "W6(A-Z)" e.g. W6A, W6B, etc. The exact dates of the event vary from year to year - in 2005 the event was held from September 10 through September 18. In 2006 the event will be held from September 8 through September 18.
