Rotom (ロトム Rotomu?, Rotom in original Japanese language versions) is one of the 493 fictional species of Pokémon creatures from the multi-billion-dollar[1] Pokémon media franchise – a collection of video games, anime, manga, books, trading cards and other media, created by Satoshi Tajiri. The purpose of Rotom in the games, anime and manga, as with all other Pokémon, is to battle both wild Pokémon, untamed creatures encountered while the player passes through various environments, and tamed Pokémon owned by Pokémon trainers.
The name Rotom seems to be a portmanteau of rotation and atom, as well as the word motor spelled backwards.

[edit] Biological characteristics
Rotom seems to resemble nothing more than a red sphere with a face similar to Castform's; there is a single red spike (probably a lightning rod, considering its Electric type nature) on top of and a small red bump underneath its central body mass, resembling the character Pulseman from a previous Game Freak title of the same name. Rotom is covered by a whitish-glow with two appendages shaped like lightning bolts, referring to the fact that Rotom's body is supposed to be made of plasma. Rotom are said to sneak into electrical appliances and short them out.
[edit] In the video games
Rotom is one of 107 new Pokémon that were introduced in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. Rotom can be found in the Hakutai Forest Mansion at night after receiving the National Dex in front of the TV. Only one is found wild in the game.
Rotom is the first Pokémon with the type combination of Electric and Ghost. Its special ability is Levitate, which gives it an immunity to Ground-type attacks that would be super-effective against it otherwise, giving it the same advantage exclusively given to Zapdos (due to the latter's Flying-type) in the previous generations.
Rotom's highest stat is Special Attack (closely followed by speed), balanced out by poor Attack and Hit Point stats.
