Rotherham Town F.C.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rotherham Town F.C. were an English football club from Rotherham, Yorkshire. They merged with Rotherham County in 1925 to form Rotherham United, who are still members of the Football League today.

The club was founded in 1870 as Rotherham F.C., but were soon renamed Rotherham Town. In 1889 the club became a founder member of the Midland League. They were champions in 1892 and 1893, and were subsequently elected to the Second Division of the Football League in the 1893.

However, the club were not very successful, lasting only three seasons in the League, finishing in 14th, 12th and 15th place (out of 16) before failing re-election. In 1904 the club rejoined the Midland League, where they remained until 1925, when they merged with their Third Division North neighbours Rotherham County to form Rotherham United.
