Ross University

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ross University is a for-profit university consisting of two campuses located in the Caribbean. DeVry University bought those two schools in 2003.

  • Ross University School of Medicine is located on the island nation of Dominica which was founded in 1978. It was originally started by a businessman Robert Ross. The first class was held in the Castaway hotel. Because of what he did, the road in front of the school was named as Dr. Ross Blvd. It has been changed owners three times.
  • Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine is located on the island of Saint Kitts in the Caribbean nation of Saint Kitts and Nevis. Some people question the accreditation of this university, as it is not accredited by any US or international accrediting body[1]. However the university is currently in the process of applying for AVMA accreditation. To date several campus visits have been made. People also question the attrition rate of the university. It should be further noted that after students finish 7 semester abroad they work through strong partnerships established by RUSVM including Cornell Univeristy.Ross University claims the median attrition rate has fallen from 31% to 20% (from 2000-2002), but this represents only the two year attrition rate and not attrition prior to degree completion which requires 4 years [2].

John St. James has been vice-president of the university for many years.
