Rose V. Ferlita (born on December 26, 1945 in Tampa, Florida) is the newly elected County Commissioner of Hillsborough County, Florida. She was raised in Ybor City and grew up working with her family at the Ferlita Bakery now the site of Ybor City. Rose Ferlita attended high school at the Academy of the Holy Names in Tampa and later enrolled at Loyola University in New Orleans for her undergraduate studies. She completed her graduate courses at the University of Florida, College of Pharmacy, in Gainesville, Florida.

Rose Ferlita attained her business experience by serving 18 years as a pharmacist in the corporate world with Eckerd and CVS Corporation. In 1984, she founded Rose Drugs, Inc., where she has been serving the pharmacy needs of her neighborhood and surrounding areas. Her store was located in Seminole Heights, a depressed Tampa neighborhood whichthe city was moving slowly to redevelop. In March of 1999, with a grassroots effort, Ferlita won her first election as a Tampa City Council Representative.

Ferlita first served as District 2 Citywide Tampa City Council Representative and won an easy re-election victory in March of 2003.

Of Elections in 2006 she ran to fill the vacated seat in the District 1 Hillsborough County Commission Race previously held by Kathy Castor who ran and won in 2006 for U. S. Congress, District 11. In accordance with the Florida election law, Rose Ferlita submitted her resignation to the City Council prior to the elections. After a heated Republican primary, Rose Ferlita won with more than 53% of the votes during the September 5, 2006 Primary Elections. Two months later at the General Election on November 7, 2006 Rose again secured another election win with more than 58% of the votes.

  • The Florida Pharmacy Association honored Rose Ferlita in July of 2000 with the James H. Beal Florida Pharmacist of the Year. This honor was bestowed upon her by her fellow pharmacists statewide in recognition of her “outstanding service to pharmacy”.
