Rope line

A rope line is a rope, often covered with velvet, that separates famous persons from a crowd. It is strung from portable metal or plastic poles. In American political terminology, a politician "walking down the rope line" is shaking hands of his or her supporters and guests.

- In 2004, U.S. President George W. Bush explained that he had only met Ahmed Chalabi in informal settings, such as the rope line at the 2004 State of the Union address [2].
