Ronald Reid

Ronald Reid was born in Herington, Kansas in 1928. He obtained a bachelor’s degree from Pepperdine, Massachusetts and a master’s degree from New Mexico. He continued his education and was awarded a Ph.D. from Purdue University. He served as a Professor Emeritus of Communication at University of Massachusetts for majority of his career. He devoted much time to research in “sermonic discourse, war rhetoric and oratory of the 18th and 19th centuries” (Snowball). He is well-known for his framework in analyzing pro-war rhetoric. Eventually, he received many awards for his years of research including the Winans-Wichelns Award for Distinguished Scholarship in Rhetoric and Public Address and the Golden Anniversary Monograph awards in honor of that research.

Ron Reid died on August 10th, 2002.
