As a biologist he is specialised in molecular biology. He has been a professor at the California Institute of Technology, at the Laboratory of Molecular Biology, and at Utrecht University.[1] From 1987 until 2000 he was the managing director of the Netherlands Cancer Institute.[1] In February 2000 he started a research institute at the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences.[1]
[edit] Political career
