Ronald D. Liebowitz

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ronald D. Liebowitz is the 16th president of Middlebury College, located in Middlebury, Vermont. He succeeded John McCardell Jr as president on July 1, 2004 and was inaugurated on October 10 of that year. Before assuming the presidency he served as provost and executive vice president. Ron Liebowitz (as he is more commonly known), or Liebs (as he is affectionately named amongst students), came to Middlebury as an instructor of geography in 1984 and became a full professor in 1993; he is an authority on the political and economic geography of Russia. In the year before he became president, the Middlebury College newspaper created a scandal when it published an article citing many anonymous senior faculty members who were strongly opposed to his presidency.

[edit] Liebowitz Day

In January 2007, unknown Middlebury College students began posting signs around the campus declaring March 16, 2007 as Liebowitz Day. Although there is still no mention of what events will be scheduled for this day, there is talk of a money hoarding contest being held in front of his office, as well as a loafer race across campus. These were most likely created to remind students of president Liebowitz's keen fund raising skills, and his peculiar fascination with wearing loafers.

On March 15, 2007 at 3:11am, the day before Liebowitz Day, Middlebury campus public safety found a 6 by 6 foot poster taped to the front of the Middlebury library by Leigh Polfer. Though taken down before students or faculty saw the poster, the college grows nervous as Liebowitz day draws nearer.

One particular activity, scheduled for 8:30 PM on Liebowitz Day, is a concert known as Liebstock 2007. To spread awareness, a group of students sold teeshirts with President Liebowitz's face in a Che Guevarra fashion.

Though the administration is still investigating the origins of Liebowitz Day, most recent information names the Portuguese house as the culprit. As most Middlebury student know, the people living in the Portuguese house cannot be trusted because of their miniscule hands, and evil witch noses.
