Ron Koch

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ron Koch is a competitive eater from Las Vegas, NV, and a top-ranked member of the International Federation of Competitive Eating. For a long time, Ron Koch was an enigma to the competitive eating community, a quiet man who ate silently, but with great intensity. At one event he wore goggles, presumably to protect his eyes from flying food debris. Fans tried not to read too much into this.

In 2005, Koch has established himself as an eater with great depth and significant potential. Known in the competitive eating community as "Hizzoner," he beat arch rival and fellow Las Vegas resident Carlene LeFevre at the Las Vegas Nathan's qualifier and performed remarkably well at the Alka-Seltzer US Open.

Many are watching this eater as a potential threat in 2006, and many hope the goggles return. In fact, fans have begun to refer to Koch as "The Optic," in an effort to summon the eyewear.
