Ron Kimmel
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ron Kimmel is a professor of computer science at the Technion, Israel, specializing in the fields of geometric computational methods and algorithms in image processing and computer vision. He holds a D.Sc. degree in electrical engineering (1995) from the Technion and is a winner of the Hershel Rich Technion innovation award and the Henry Taub Prize.
Kimmel's main contributions to the field include the development of fast marching methods for triangulated manifolds (together with James Sethian), the geodesic active contours algorithm for image segmentation and a geometric framework for image filtering (named Beltrami flow after the Italian mathematician Eugenio Beltrami).
In 2003, he appeared in an interview to WNBC on the use of geometric approaches in three-dimensional face recognition.
Kimmel is the author of the book Numerical geometry of images, published in 2003.
