[edit] Belated welcome

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the Newcomers help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I noticed you are known only as an IP address; that means you are not signed up. To sign up, you only need to click Create account and choose a username and password. You don't need to provide any personal information. If you sign up, you'll have a username that others can use to recognize you and leave you messages on the wiki. You'll be able to sign your name just by typing four tildes (~~~~) when you leave someone else a message. Plus, you (and others) will easily be able to see a list of all your contributions to Wikipedia.

If you have any questions, see the help pages, ask at the Village pump, or feel free to ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! We on WP:WC seem to have been remiss on greeting you last month, so I've added some resource links for you with one of the standard greetings above. There is a lot to learn about wikiCulture in our Online community, and it's obvious from the below you've hit your head on a few bumps already! Asking someone on the welcoming committee won't always spare you the friction, but we can help you avoid pitfalls if you're patient and ask! Best wishes. // FrankB 13:37, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: "Speedy deletions"

Heya, I just deleted "Speedy deletions". This was because it was recently deleted according to Wikipedia:Redirects for deletion. If at all possible, if you notice a redirect disappear (even more so for cross-namespace redirects from main space to Wikipedia: space, a practice which some people frown upon), please try to check if it has been RfD'd lately. This might save time because reposted deleted content gets speedy deleted and the folks who do SDs, don't seem to get much coffee these days. Sincerely (a guy who's slightly bitter about the removal of "AfD" redirect, but not really complaining =), --wwwwolf (barks/growls) 15:52, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Murphy's law

You added this: Image:Murphys_Law_Poster.jpg a few days back. My concern is that the graphics image is much too small and doesn't expand into readability. Are you taking steps to get a larger image? Also, you cite no source for the image, only that it's popular. I'm not sure that will stand up, though it has the virtue of being on point for the article. The question is whether it comes from a copyrighted source. If so, the link ought to be given at least crediting the originator. Best regards // FrankB 13:37, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

see Thread on my talk (in a bit, stealing above to xpost), need to consult others on your query. // FrankB 16:21, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Subst sprotect tag on George W. Bush

Please do not subst any protection tags as it can make things complicated when those tags are changed or removed. Thanks, ZsinjTalk 01:18, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

My appologies then. I would like to suggest that instead of substing and editing, to create a new template based upon the one you substed and place it on pages such as GWB that are permanantly protected. :-) ZsinjTalk 01:26, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
Haha, sounds like a plan. Cheers! --ZsinjTalk 01:35, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

I too apologize for misunderstanding your edit - I suggest you don't modify it, becoz protection is given by admins. Let them decide what to do. This Fire Burns Always 02:17, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
Check with user:Staxringold - he's an admin who's been active on this article. This Fire Burns Always 02:23, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
No problem - was my bad. This Fire Burns Always 02:25, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
  • Honored to get a nod from Rama's Arrow. As for the template, I would suggest bringing the idea up at Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals) as such a template would likely deal with the extremest of the extreme cases when it comes to controversial subjects (those that tend to draw constant vandalism) meaning the more community support you have the better. I think the main issue you are going to run into is that no article will truly be protected forever, Bush will likely just be protected up to about... Say 3-6 months after leaving office once the heat really moves to his successor. I'd be happy to help in a proposed template design, but I would bring this up at the pump, maybe a WP:RFC, and possibly then the Community Portal. Staxringold talkcontribs 02:35, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Community names

As you've discovered, there are many ways to name the neighborhoods of incorporated cities. There is a general consensus in favor of the "[Neighborhood, City, State]" model. Though occasionally clumsy, it is generally easy to implement and predictable for other editors. If you'd like to discuss the naming of L.A. neighborhoods then Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Southern California is a good central location. Cheers, -Will Beback 06:36, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image tagging for Image:MacKinnon.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:MacKinnon.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

An image that you uploaded, Image:Murphys Law Poster.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Copyright problems because it is a suspected copyright violation. [edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Murphys Law Poster.jpg)

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Murphys Law Poster.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Jesse Viviano 20:13, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Karamel Sutra

This article has been nominated for deletion (or has already been deleted). Don't be discouraged! Many of us have had articles deleted, especially early in our wikicareers. Deletion is not a reflection on your editing but simply the application of our standard rules, particularly WP:NOTABILITY (and WP:BIO for persons, WP:WEB for websites, WP:CORP for companies, WP:MUSIC for bands, and so forth.) Looking forward to your future contributions, Herostratus 15:27, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

N.B.: Whilst we probably don't really need articles on each brand's ice cream flavors, the addition of material on on the flavors might be compiled into one article and linked to from the main Ben & Jerry's article. Herostratus
