Rome City is a town in Noble County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,615 at the 2000 census.

(41.490945, -85.364294)According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 5.6 km² (2.2 mi²). 3.1 km² (1.2 mi²) of it is land and 2.5 km² (1.0 mi²) of it (45.16%) is water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 1,615 people, 629 households, and 489 families residing in the town. The population density was 524.0/km² (1,354.0/mi²). There were 825 housing units at an average density of 267.7/km² (691.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 98.33% White, 0.19% African American, 0.19% Native American, 0.06% Asian, 0.31% Pacific Islander, 0.06% from other races, and 0.87% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.56% of the population.
There were 629 households out of which 33.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.6% were married couples living together, 11.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22.1% were non-families. 19.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.57 and the average family size was 2.90.
In the town the population was spread out with 25.1% under the age of 18, 7.0% from 18 to 24, 29.1% from 25 to 44, 26.8% from 45 to 64, and 12.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 101.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 102.3 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $41,118, and the median income for a family was $46,591. Males had a median income of $33,239 versus $21,630 for females. The per capita income for the town was $19,612. About 7.7% of families and 9.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 13.8% of those under age 18 and 8.5% of those age 65 or over.
Rome City was also the home of The Way Corps, an elite training arm of The Way International, from 1977-1990. The property, lying on a natural mineral water spring, is now used as a sports camp for children. Famous members of The Way, a non denominational biblical research ministry often considered a cult, include model Lake Daily, art dealer Island Weis, rapper D-Tension and former New England Patriots players Tony Collins and Irving Fryer.
