Motown Remembers Marvin Gaye (1986) |
"Romantically Yours" was the next posthumous release for American soul music legend Marvin Gaye, also released by Columbia Records in 1985.
Unlike "Dream", this album showed that despite his legendary status in pop and R&B music, Gaye still wanted to be like his idol, Nat "King" Cole and in songs like "Why Did I Choose You" and "The Shadow of Your Smile", he tried his hardest to be so. But there was still something very Marvin about some of the songs including the bluesy "I Live For You" and the jazz-soul poetry of "Just Like".
Better results of his jazz-soul combo can be found in his 1997 release, Vulnerable, a result of a 12-year quest to create a great album of jazzy ballads and pop standards.
