Romance of Darkness (Mizu ni Sumu Hana) is a 5 volume shoujo manga series. Rikka is an innocent, every day schoolgirl but her life is thrown into chaos when her bus flips into a lake on a school field trip killing everyone except for her. Rikka is hospitalized but when she finally leaves the hospital she can't move on from the trauma because she is continously attacked in several bizarre ways involving water. Linked to these attacks is a girl whose name also happens to be Rikka. The questions are--who saved Rikka when all her classmates were killed and what is it that the evil Rikka wants?

A live action movie was made in 2006 with the lead Rikka being played by Aki Maeda of Battle Royale fame and Keiko Kitagawa of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon and "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift" fame.

Strange bloopers in the film: an underwater room contains fireplaces, and humans are able to breathe and even talk underwater without exhaling bubbles.
