The Roman Catholic Metropolitan Archdiocese of San Cristobal de la Habana is one of three Catholic Archdioceses in Cuba.[1][2]

It was originally set up as the Diocese of Santiago de Cuba on 10 September 1787 by Pope Pius VI. On 6 January 1925 Pope Pius XI elevated it to the level of an archdiocese, becoming a metropolitan see the same day. The current Archbishop of Havana is His Eminence Jaime Lucas Cardinal Ortega y Alamino since his appointment by Pope John Paul II on 21 November 1981.
