[edit] Summary

Description

The so-called Romanian revolutionary flag depicted here, is the Romanian Communist flag with the state symbols cut out. It appeared during the December 1989 Romanian Revolution and was a real hit with the media, making it to the cover of a Paris Match magazine (cover of no. 2119, 4 January 1990 [1]) and presented to the U.S. president Bill Clinton [2]. This particular image reproduces the cover of Andrei Codrescu, The Hole in the Flag: A Romanian Exile's Story of Return and Revolution (New York: William Morrow & Co., 1991), ISBN 0688088058.
